The Specialist Operational Support Directors and Consultants are active medical professionals with emergency medical services across the globe.
We understand the need for real world ‘hands on’ experience to develop competence and confidence and equally the requirement to maintain professional skills through continuing education programmes.
SOS are in a unique position to offer a wide range of medical continuing professional development opportunities.
Healthcare professionals may attend one of our placements to develop their clinical practice and gain professional recognition whilst assisting local communities in developing countries.
First Responders, EMTs and Paramedics may work as part of an ambulance crew dealing with major trauma on the streets of Guatemala, Central America. This is a truly hostile environment which will put your clinical decision making and skills to the test.
Crews regularly face multiple gunshot wounds, knife wounds and serious road traffics collisions on a daily basis.
Working alongside Guatemalan Firefighters and Medics from Los Bomberos Voluntarios will not only provide you with great medical CPD, it will also afford a fantastic insight into another Emergency Medical Service, Latin American culture and provide much needed support and resources for the underfunded and over worked voluntary fire department in Guatemala City.
References and qualifications will be verified prior to placement confirmation.
SOS work closely with the UK and Guatemalan charity Education for the Children (EFTC), a foundation which provides primary and secondary education, nutrition and safe housing for some of the poorest children in Guatemala.
Many children suffer from illnesses related to their environment and water quality.
Specialist Operational Support hold regular primary care clinics to identify and treat or refer some of the most at risk children, in order to improve their quality of life and ensure they are able to take advantage of their education.
SOS are always looking for volunteers from EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses and Doctors to assist with the clinic on a short term basis. References, qualifications and criminal record checks will be conducted prior to placement authorisation.
